How is PC*Backup different?

Firstly, TechOnline takes the hassle and the guess work out of what to buy, how to install it and, most importantly, how to correctly configure it so that all important business files are backed-up.

Then we work with you on what critical files need to be backed-up. All too often, computer users forget about backing-up their emails (which include their proposals, quotations, invoices, order, etc.) or contact database or MYOB/Quicken files. And only realise their mistake when it’s too late. TechOnline makes sure that susbscribers are actually backing up all these important files.

Finally, we make sure that the backups occur on a daily basis by monitoring the service - just in case something is not running correctly. And, most importantly, we show subscribers how to retrieve a file – simply and quickly.

For small businesses, this is something quite revolutionary and there is now no excuse to be caught out with no or an inadequate backup regime in place.

Why is TechOnline Backup so valuable to small business computer users? Because it is configured to run automatically, every night without the subscriber needing to do anything. This removes one of the main issues with regards backup - subscribers either forgetting to backup or only backing-up occasionally and thereby putting their business at considerable risk.

To ensure the security of your data, it is first encrypted before transmission and remains encrypted while in storage. This is to protect the data from others gaining unauthorised access to it. As a further security precaution, the data is also backed-up to a second data centre - removing a further backup issue - not having a fall back if your back-up fails or is unavailable for some reason.

58% of companies surveyed in AUSCERT’s 2004 Survey experienced computer theft in the previous year.

If you loose all of your data (computer stolen/destroyed, hard disk failure etc.), TechOnline can provide you with a copy of your backed-up data on CDs, delivered to your office and ready for installation on your new computer.

How much data backup is needed?

PC*Backup starts at 120 MB which provides enough storage to backup critical files such as MYOB or Quickbooks data files, customer lists, key documents and presentations, etc.

The larger 500 MB capacity allows for more files to be included, and in some cases may even be enough to backup your email.

If you want to backup all important business files, documents, emails, etc. you will probably need the 2 GB or 4 GB capacity backup options.

2 GB (gigabyte) of Storage

In many cases this is enough to backup all important business files, documents, emails, etc. Typically if you have been using a computer for 3+ years, particularly for emails and for contacts/diary (personal digital assistant – PDA), you will need 0.5 GB to 1 GB of storage plus additional storage for your documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). ie. on average between 800Mb and 1.5 GB is required.

4 GB of Storage

For the really heavy user with large storage requirements - eg. many years of emails, a large number of PowerPoint presentations, and possibly multi-media content (images/photos). This option will meet the high capacity needs required by some users and also the requirements of a file server.

10 GB of Storage

Primarily for used to backup data stored on a file server, the 10 GB option is the largest capacity available.
