TechOnline was formed in May 2004 to directly address the IT problems of micro/small businesses. The principals of TechOnline undertook research with many small businesses – SOHO, home offices, professionals consultants, engineers, small trade companies (plumber, electrician) and small manufacturers – to find out what their needs were.

There are many computer support companies providing services for companies with 5 plus computers and maybe 10 plus employees. Smaller businesses find these services quite expensive and they often require commitment to an annual service arrangement.

The alternative for many small businesses is to rely on the extended “friends” network e.g. someone who has some computer skills and knowledge. This approach leaves businesses exposed, and sometimes the quality of advice and fixes means the solution is sometimes worse than the initial problem.

As a consequence of the research carried out TechOnline decided to take advantage of recent developments in the rapidly changing world of technology:

• ready availability and take-up of Internet access by small business
• development of solutions, previously only available to large corporates, to enable remote management of computers, and
• availability of Broadband Internet at the same price as the much slower dial-up.

The result of all this has been the creation of a set of TechOnline subscription services designed specifically for small business.

TechOnline's Management

TechOnline’s two key principals are Ian Bloomfield and Peter Philipp - and between them they have 45 years of combined experience working with businesses to deliver value from information technology and communications.

Both have held senior management roles with some of the leading technology companies, including Hewlett-Packard, Telstra and Oracle Corporation. In addition, they have worked for a number of smaller and start-up companies – holding regional management positions and responsible for the overall strategy, business development and sales activities.
